20-21 Season Director Call

Summit Theatre Group issues a call for applications from potential directors for part of our 2020-2021 season. Directors are encouraged to submit one to three different proposals. Everyone is required to review our Production Manual before applying and it is necessary for directors to agree to work within the parameters given. STG is self-producing the August 2020 large musical. If you have any interest in directing this musical in the future, please inquire with Ginger Birch, Company Manager, contact information is listed below.

Proposal submissions will be considered for all of our 2020-2021 production slots listed below. If you need  to be considered for a specific time slot, please make sure to include that in your proposal, otherwise we will shape our season based on submissions received and where they fit best in our season as a whole. Each of our productions run for five performances over two weekends, except the holiday dinner theatre which is usually a Thursday-Sunday run, with two performances on Saturday.

PRODUCTIONS WE ARE SEEKING

Dramatic Play or Musical with Social Impact

  • Location: MCC-Longview Cultural Arts Center Blackbox Theatre
  • Description: A small to medium cast show that can be produced with limited scenic & technical requirements. Combo-sized live accompaniment preferred for musicals.
  • STG desires a dramatic play or musical with social impact subject matter. Past shows like this for reference: Next to Normal, The Guys, Wings, All My Sons, A Piece of My Heart, The Women of Lockerbie, Doubt, A Parable.

Holiday Dinner Theatre Play with Music or Small Musical/Revue

  • Location: Bridge Space in Downtown Lee’s Summit. Link to see their space: www.bridgespace.us
  • Description: A small cast play with music or small musical/revue with a winter or holiday theme.
  • Extremely limited scenic and technical requirements.

Comedic Play or Musical

  • Location: MCC-Longview Cultural Arts Center Blackbox Theatre
  • Description: A small to medium cast show that can be produced with limited scenic & technical requirements. Combo-sized live accompaniment preferred for musicals.

MCC-Longview Cultural Arts Center Blackbox Theatre Information: Stage area is 54’x48′ (without seating risers.) Seating is modular and can be reconfigured as desired, one recent production was done in a runway stage format. Open black box with rolling catwalk, short curtains can hang from bottom of catwalk if desired. 6 mic packs and some handheld mics available. Small lighting setup with limited instruments. Video projector with optional projection screen on upstage wall. STG owns an electric 88-weighted key piano with many features and three monitors.

CONSIDERATIONS

  • Please consider STGs demographics as well as audition pool when developing production proposals.
  • STG does like to include two plays in our season if possible, not solely musicals.

APPLICATION & INTERVIEW SCHEDULE

Applications should include:

  • Resume with special attention to directing experience.
  • Proposals with show title and detailed production vision & concept. This  should include your set design ideas and all technical needs. It can also include suggested costume/lighting/prop design.
  • Creative & production staff, if decided. (Optional: STG can help find creative & production staff members.)          
  • Approximate budget information based on past productions can be provided upon request.    

Application Deadline & Decision Schedule

  • December 31, 2019: Applications due by midnight
  • Saturdays in January: Interviews scheduled
  • February: Applicants informed of decisions made
  • April 18, 2020: Official season announcement at a special Season Announcement Event.
