HISTORY

“BRINGING QUALITY THEATRE TO LEE’S SUMMIT”

Summit Theatre Group was formed after Lee’s Summit experienced a 10-year hiatus of the performing arts. Desiring to see a change, a diverse group of Kansas City professionals joined together to bring theatre back into their community through a new non-profit organization – Summit Theatre Group. In 2018, STG recognized the need in our community for more educational art opportunities and STG Studio was born. After almost 20 years, STG continues to proudly serve our community..

MISSION STATEMENT

Our mission is to provide Lee’s Summit and surrounding areas with enjoyable live theatre opportunities and experiences through community involvement and education in a vibrant, dynamic organization.

DIVERSITY STATEMENT

Summit Theatre Group is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization which welcomes and values all forms of diversity as we strive to better represent the performing arts community. We are committed to fostering and working in an inclusive and welcoming space; an environment of equity demonstrated by recruiting leadership, volunteers and cast members who are representative of the diverse communities we serve. This includes the creation of inclusion-sensitive educational programming, multicultural show selection, openness and inclusion in faculty, directors, board members and non-traditional casting choices. We are further committed to engaging and casting under-represented artists; inviting children and individuals of all backgrounds to our educational workshops; and producing shows that work towards a more inclusive and diverse community.

VISION STATEMENT

This season we will engage new audience members, technicians, and performers through the use of new spaces and performance opportunities. We will continue to work to create safe environments for all involved, to increase our diversity efforts, to develop creative and innovative educational programming for both in person and virtual learning, and to explore new and original works.
